Just got didi offer. Hr asked me for salary expectation . What should I say?? Also I think it’s preipo... so not sure what to ask
They in Cali? Can't ask you that
Think about the sustainability of popular Chinese tech companies. I heard about other companies like Alibaba are generous in cash too for recruiting talents. But also heard things can change very quickly under that climate. Especially, Didi recently got a new domestic competitor, if you search didi along with meituan. I personally don’t think we can use the same way to judge US and Chinese tech companies.
There’s a lot of ways you can answer. You can give a range you are actually hoping for. You can ask the level and salary range which they are technically supposed to give you per the new law. You can offer your current comp. You can say something like I’m targeting this amount this year and give a rough estimate of what you ‘hope’ you make if you perform well, get top of bonus and stock appreciation. Or you can just go blind and ask for an offer and negotiate from there if you want. Most of us have some rough numbers in mind. If those are high it’s doubtful what you throw out will low ball yourself. If you do you can always say I did some further calculations and am not hoping for something in xyz range.

What’s the role?
Just wanted to give you a reminder that their valuation should be 70-80% (like Uber) since their last funding round because of a bloody miss of ride/revenue target. Fund raised just 20 days before. You’re welcome: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/09/uber-rival-didi-reportedly-missed-its-december-ride-targets.html
I will be interviewing at Didi in April as well. This is what I have in mind. It’s currently valued at $50-55 billion. I don’t know what’s their price per share , ie if they have a number similar to Uber. I will consider 50-60% of that number as the stock price. Also the other thing to look at is if they have yearly cash bonus and any RSU refreshes. My compensation expectation would be at least the same (actually 10-15% more) my current compensation considering 50-60% of the total RSU they give at the beginning (assuming a standard 4 year vesting schedule). Incidentally the team I am interviewing have 3 guys from Google; so I am hoping the compensation is not that bad.
