Are the base salary for similar engineers very close between Netflix and Roku? Or is Netflix way ahead?
Also is Roku known for being paying engineers well? I haven’t seen anyone compare nflx with roku ever before.
In that case, you can hear from me. I was one of the highest paid engineers (below lead/director level) in my team in Adobe. When I asked for a 20% jump on top of it, Roku actually gave me even further jump than what I asked along with sign in bonus and stocks. This is the first time when I wanted less and had to accept lot more than what I asked. Still I think it’s lot less than Netflix because Roku also has health care and some other benefits. Note that I am just an average Engineer, no star or hero. So far I like what I see at Roku. I feel like HR has combined the good parts of Netflix style as well as standard Bay Area companies style very well.
Thanks for the info. Do you mind telling us a ball park range on the offer?
My apology, no.
While I was interviewing at Roku, we had agreed upon X amount of $. Upon receiving the offer letter they bumped it up very significantly without me saying or doing anything. I thought that was awesome.
Same here :)
PJ - why on earth would you have such a username ??
Is tc just around 300k? Talking abt base is silly
The Sr SWE base salary is in the range of 250k to 350k. If you add equity then tc is 400k to 500k as stock is doing pretty good !
My understanding is Netflix pays about 20-30% more. Because they are so highly compensated everyone is all about keeping their job as terminations there are frequent. I prefer Roku's culture and work life balance over that extra 20% to work at a place that is so political.

TESLA UP 14% AFTER HOURS 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Netflix pays entire comp as cash component; so would definitely be more than base component of pretty much every company in the Bay Area or the world in general.
ah look it’s another mesosphere person - rare sight
