I don't know if this practise is legit but people from selected few colleges are hired as SDE-2 while others are still at SDE-1. Isn't this demotivating in a workplace ( tc is also pretty low)?Added to this there are three levels to get to SDE-2 from SDE-1. Is this the practise in all counties?
It's not always the case. I landed an SDE2 right after college and I came from a no name school. However, I did have decent side projects and other stuff.
How there are 3 levels for reaching sde 2.
They have T1- L1,L2,L3 next T2- L1,L2,L3.
T2 is SDE2
Let’s be honest, Ivy-league education gets larger offers because the brand is worth more. Also, yes, the same “college degree” is not the same at every college. I’ve hired/fired/mentored/coached and otherwise done engineering management for a long time. Many prestigious software companies tout their numbers of patents, PhDs, Masters, and prestigious schools. You offer the candidate with infinite options more money because the supply is finite and the demand is huge.
That's mostly true for McKinsey type companies.

I don't think this is the case in Faang and MS. Also I hear that there is a lot of bias amongst managers while promoting people.
