I moved to America from England a year ago to be with my wife. I left my Entertainment management job. Making just under 100k USD yearly. I couldn't work for several months during the Visa process.. I tried to get a job that I liked, had zero luck and ended up deciding I needed sales experience. I now sell high end luxury vehicles. I like to think I am very smart and intelligent. I work 55 hours a week, make 6000~ monthly. I want to start my own advertisement company and lead generation company. I feel like I'm wasting away in a job where I'm not using any of my skills. How do I make the move to start my own business while also working full time. I didn't save any of my money during my time before I moved to america. I was only 18 I didn't know what I was doing. I'd love any advise at all. I can't help but feel depressed going to work every day knowing I'm not challenging myself.
Network?
I've networked all my life. Issue is all my people I know don't know the industry I want to create the product for. The only people I know are my management team and they don't want me to leave where I am.
You have already taken the first step. You just need to keep yourself motivated and stay focused on your goals. I’m an engineer so only know tech side, sorry. Have you ever considered going to events like Startup weekend? Although it’s heavily focused on tech, I know lots of sales and marketing folks attend too. Also, have you read any books about this? The lean startup is one book I can recommend. Don’t worry about not having enough money saved up. Everything else can be worked out. You’ll find a way. Just stay the course. Good luck!
Never thought of Startup weekend.. interesting. I created an AI concept for lead generation and a marketing system behind that and I know that its not been done yet. Issue is trying to find funding to bring it forward.
If you think it’s a novel idea with potential, first things first, file a patent. Makes finding much easier as well if you own the IP.
You make good money. Which location?
Moneys never been a big thing. I need it to survive sure. But I care about enjoyment of work.. I've managed teams of 30 and also started unbelievable projects at my previous job but not on my dime or my down time.
What exactly did you do at your previous job, before coming to US?
