I have often seen people being tight lipped about where they intend to move and which company they would work for. Is there any guidance on if its okay to tell your current employer about where you are moving and the kind of compensation you are getting at the next job ? (My employer cant match the numbers and I wouldn’t stay anyway) I know that offer letters say that they are confidential, does that mean you cannot share it to get a competing offer / show your current company your offer.
At State Farm, your manager pushes you really hard to know where you’re going next, seemingly “mandatory.” Why? Because if you’re going to a competitor, you’ll get walked out the same day.
What is the meaning of wakes out the same day.
Fixed it. Meant “walked out”
If you’re at MS and you’re leaving for Google don’t say a word. You will get escorted out.
As stated above, disclosing that can only hurt you. Very rarely (if at all) will it ever help you. It isn't your (soon to be previous) employer's business to know where you're headed. If you get pressured, keep cool and tell them to check LinkedIn when (or if) you update it.
What’s the benefit to sharing if they can’t match and you won’t stay? You don’t really owe your old company anything.
I am sure they would want to know where I am going, I have spent a few years and it feels odd to hide it. Is there any demerit in telling them ?
No, there's no demerit in telling it. Some people are just private and don't want you to know. Or maybe they're not going anywhere yet
