Disputing bills from chiropractors and urgent care

I have Aetna insurance HSA, and I believe I was wrongly billed from Swedish Medical group for an urgent care visit I didnt intend on going to. Although the bill this time is fairly small, a couple hundred dollars, Im wondering, how successful were you in disputing any medical bill for that matter? What is the general process

    You did not intend to go to urgent care or you did not go at all? If you actually went, I'm not sure how you are going to get out of paying other than letting it go to default.

  • You can call the billing at urgent care and request for a hardship or negotiate your balance. Many medical facility will work with you. Did your insurance process the claim at all? Was this a surprise bill? Surprise bill are illegal and can be brought up as a lawsuit.

    You can call (or login online to your Aetna account) and view your Explanation of Benefits for that visit. Itโ€™ll give you details by service line of what was billed and how if Aetna paid anything on your behalf. You mentioned HSA so did you meet your deductible? If you havenโ€™t unfortunately the balance is on you. You can always call and file an appeal but it can be lengthy.
