Diversity and Inclusion Roles

I work at rapidly growing startup on the sales team, but I’ve always been really involved in D&I.

We have a D&I volunteer group that I participate in, and we just recently hired a director of D&I and recruitment.

I have inquired about new roles in D&I becoming available, and it doesn’t seem like it will happen for a while.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any positions in D&I that are availble at other tech companies?

    When did institutionalized bigotry become more popular than meritocracy? Just hire whichever applicant is best suited for each role, and stop discriminating against white men.

      This a very myopic take on the reasoning behind America's success. Individualism is more of a hindrance than a boon and in fact, the US coming together as a collective and leveraging that power in trade is what brought it to where it is now. This fantasy of individuals somehow wielding more power than a group is ridiculous. Humanity's success is founded on our social nature and ability to form communities.

      You're also twisting my words. No one is making these judgements at the individual level because frankly it just doesn't matter. However at the high level, it is important to open up pipelines such that you are reaching the most wide open group of potential talent possible.

      This is a fact and is why theses corporations are making these efforts in the first place. You talk of Cultural Marxism and Capitalism yet you are being wilfully ignorant of the US past. Look at how we've dealt with trade as we've grown and tell me that it's about individualism. Look at the racial laws we've codified in US law and think about why you think suddenly now we're applying "collectivist" attitudes.

      Anyway at the end of the day you don't have to feel threatened if you truly deserve your place in the market.

      This will prompt the user to claim that they are not in fact white. Regardless, when a group is accustomed to a certain level of comfort, any perceived blow to that will be seen as a threat. That's human nature anyway

      Hey Dr. Monkey, I hear what you're saying. I think you're right that people should be judged as individuals, but to be seen as an individual is a privilege that you brand with pride. Not everyone lives the reality that you experience, and empathy goes a long way. Your resistance to diverse pipelines only reinforces the need for them.

    Can you explain to us what a “D&I” position might do? I’m not familiar with one at amazon, but maybe I don’t understand.

They are also responsible for hosting and sourcing events that pools of eligible and diverse might attend for the purpose of recruiting. And let me make that very clear... eligible pools of talent.

      Meaning they have the background to prove they are just as qualified as any other candidate regardless of sex, gender, race, sexuality, disability, etc.

    Amazon values D&I and has DICE org. But I don’t think being diverse and inclusive will fly as a primary occupation. It’s more something you do on a side - events and such to raise awareness. They have budget for this stuff though. But their events usually suck (unlike Latinos@Amazon for example)

    D&I is something to integrate in various roles, not an actual job or profession. Even in your statement "director of D&I and recruitment"
    Their actual job is recruitment, the D&I part is branding.
