I know there were such programs in college that eventually lead to internships and jobs, such as Google Bold, Amazon, Wells Fargo and Jp Morgan leadership. My friend is looking for a fulltime job at one of these top companies, he failed the university SDE interview with Amazon. Now hes looking for an alternative option, possibly not SDE, available for recent college grad, like TPM or data analyst
This isn't how it works. Diversity programs are not built like a lottery. Seriously. If she's in school and has no network and hasn't reached out to alums, she's doing it wrong. Signed A Melanin Maker Edit. Oh she didn't even do well? That's even worse
A diversity program will help a candidate get an interview or get industry mentorship, but ultimately, they have to pass the interview. Tell your friend to check FB for: Tech Ladies, Ladies Storm Hackathons, and similar women in tech groups. She can also look at Anita Borg Institute's Systers, Google's Women Techmakers, and Women Who Code.
Either your friend has a misconception of diversity programs or you are hurting her confidence by thinking such programs lower the hiring standards...
They don’t?
I want to believe in good faith that they don’t since those programs only expose a certain demographic to the process. The applicants still have to go through multiple rounds of technical interviews like everyone else.
Amzn new grad loop is literally checking if u paid attention in ur ds & algo classes... if u cant even pass that, then im not so sure if your friend belongs in big N with the current skillset...
I'm confused. Why does he need the aid of a diversity program if his skills are on-par? I think you're misunderstanding the point of those programs or trying to abuse them.
Her skills are not on par. Sorry it's a she. She was not even ready for the SDE interview
Might wanna edit your OP then, where you call her, "he". Sounds like she needs to go back to learning rather than looking for handouts and trying to abuse diversity programs.
