Do all MBA grads come in as L6 Sr. PMs or Sr. PMTs at Amazon?

Does it happen that one can get pushed down to L5? Is it possible to come in at L7 if you have the right experience? I'm asking because my recruiter hasn't discussed anything about TC and levels with me as yet and I don't want to upset the process when I'm about to go onsite.

(YoE: 8yrs, of which, 5yrs is Product Management)

No. Not all MBAs come in as L6...nor should they.

I also know a few part time MBAs (from top schools) who still came in at L5. It really depends.

As far as I know, this is correct. However, the TC will be around $150k (or less), whereas an industry hire PM L6 could be almost double.

      150k base + 50 signing bonus + around 20-30k in stocks

Isn't the bonus for 2 years? And the stock vests in 4 years (5/15/40/40)?

Vesting sounds right to me. I can't confirm about the bonus.

Ok, then the TC for 1st year PMT should be 150+0.5*50+0.05*30=175.5k, not 220-230k

  • What’s the deal with auto up-leveling MBAs over BBAs? 🤷‍♀️

I can understand a TC bump but neither candidate has real world experience. An MBA does not deserve to automatically obtain Sr title alongside those who have spent years earning them.

    • Not make-believe classroom projects, constructed to look good in presentation and fluff up a resume. You know exactly what I’m talking about.

Just FYI, look at most top-30 b-schools and you'll find that the average work experience of the class is 5 years.

    • The key here is OP said “all” MBAs. Substantial portion of MBAs are just coming out of their BBAs.

Those substantial portion of MBAs you are referring to don't meet Amazon's job requirements. I have rarely seen an Amazon JD that says MBA and zero experience.

Qué? Nobody doing a shit tier MBA (which are the only ones that will take you on without experience) is getting into Amazon's product team

Why would a pm get an mba to move back into pm? How is this worthwhile at all?

A panel for finance yesterday said that 90% of MBA’s come in as an L6 the other 10% came in as an L5
