Do any companies offer alternate schedules that allow you to avoid rush hour?

Curious if any SWE roles offer or allow a schedule that is closer to second shift (or even overnight) to avoid having to commute in slow, rush hour traffic.

I would imagine this would facilitate living further out and more cheaply, if that meant your commute was completed at a higher average speed.

  • At Google, at least on my team, nothing's stopping you from rolling in at 12 and leaving at 8 or whatever

I suffer from DSPD. Google and read about it. I struggle everyday with that.

Iโ€™d never even heard of that until now.

I used to wonder why during summer vacation from school, my sleep schedule would naturally creep its way later and later until I was an โ€œearly riserโ€ again. It seemed to lock in 8p-4a for quite awhile.

A few years later I found solace in working 2nd shift. I feel so much better not having to set an alarm clock.
