I never understood why girls are never expected to pay for themselves. seems like a huge waste of money to spend on someone you 98% will not be with in the long run. like if you both go shopping why cant she buy shit for herself? I buy everything for my wife who has a job. Her company has mega backdoor Roth 401k whereas mine doesn't and her comp is much lower than mine, so we bank most of her after tax income and live on mine.
Until she leaves you and takes half plus all those subsidized expenses
Yeah well after 15 years of marriage if she ever left me that's happening anyway, we had a prenup but after this much time nearly all our assets were accumulated post marriage and WA is a "community property" state.
I only buy my gf things as a treat. She makes significantly less than me, but still good amount of money so she pays for her own stuff.

Why not just set boundaries? I am in a long term relationship and almost never buy stuff for my gf, she knows she has a job and can pay for her stuff. All the relationships I’ve been with have been like that. Do you really want to be with a gold digger? Occasionally I might cover an expensive item such as a vacation, but that’s because I want to and because I make significantly more money than my partner.
I follow the same. I make significantly more than my SO and I occasionally pay for trips and I pay for dinners and lunch. Because I want to. Apart from that, my SO is responsible and takes care of themselves. And that does not bother me because I see a future with my SO.
I guess trips and stuff is fine since that’s once in a while but I’m guessing a lot of people spend a ton of money every week when they go shopping with their SO. When they break up which they are pretty much guaranteed to do so, they’ve lost thousands of dollars for nothing. Imagine how much money you can save if you didn’t waste all that money
