I keep getting LinkedIn requests, Reddit requests or even from friends friends asking me to refer them. I understand how hard it is to find a job, so i treat them nicely, coach them, refer them. All communication is well, then, suddenly after he/she has their onsite, they stop talking to me and act as if it's my fault that they didn't get the offer. Blind ppl, do you refer ppl randomly out of Goodwill or just tell them all to stop wasting your time?
I don't refer someone I never work with. It just doesn't make sense to me.
helping recruiting team to get leads does help bring in people faster
I'd rather bring just the right people. Been spending 10+ hours per week doing phone screen and on-site interview, those random referral from internet usually just a huge waste of my and my team's time.
An Amazon referral doesn't do much. They may never get a call. When you refer someone, it asks if you know someone well or just a network lead.
Do people who get offer thru your random referral keep in touch with you?
I only refer people I have worked with. You are basically putting your rep on the line
nobody cares about your rep in this situation but you.
To each their own. If that's how you think, good for you. Just stating the facts. Let's use some logic and sense here. You keep referring candidates that seem to not be of quality or it becomes obvious they do not know you. If your company is fine with cold references, fine. It def has a negative impact on you and your rep. It seems like you are in management at Amazon and should know this esp at your level. Not gonna say you're not being forthcoming with your level but maybe it's true what they say about Amazon management.
I feel a referral is an extension of your credibility, therefore only refer people I personally know, or at the very least would be willing to work with. I’m all about helping, coaching, and pointing in a direction though.
What's the harm? Unless I can clearly determine that the person is not fit for the role I will refer.... I am not vouching . Atleast at Amazon you have an option when referring someone
Look at their resume and if it passes refer them for phone screen. Don’t you want that $$$?
Resumes are embellished and some people straight up lie. My rep is more important than short term money aka 5-10k.
I refer and forget. If they are hired you get your bonus. If they are hired and fired you aren’t affected in any way whatsoever. those who do their own leetcode round have ego issues i guess. as a person working with recruitment I know it first hand. most referrals fail on their first phone screen. it’s just an extension of generating leads. don’t overthink it.
Bingo!
Rejection is not a very good feeling, they already lost an opportunity. Better forgive them and move on. Job searching is extremely exhausting process maybe they are not aware about your feelings. If you like some of them just initiate a conversation and help them to not repeat their mistake.
