Did they change the law? If not then they’re lying to you as any publicly trade company is LEGALLY obligated to increase profits.
You'll have to point me to that specific law .. you have to perform 'in the best interest ' of shareholders, that doesn't specifically mean increase profit, it could be 'longevity of the business ', at least the way I remember reading it.
Treating employees well and doing what is best for shareholders are not mutually exclusive.
Throughout history the business class has just looked out for themselves through war / revolutions and everything . This is no different - businesses will say whatever is cool or the current viewpoint for PR and keep the money machine going . Their only conviction is making money and buying that penthouse in a cool part of a cool city . #SethJi_values
