Yeah. I don't like to be the center of attention. Compliments tend to make me squirm in general. And women are often complimented on things like physical beauty, penmanship, social skills, not all compliments are nice.

Maybe we don't trust our managers intentions. Maybe their actions have shown us the hollow nature of their words. A manager who oggles you and has no boundaries then compliments your blouse may leave you feeling mortified. And are your words authentic or has the internal employee manager survey been released? I have seen managers compliment and on the next breath ask for something or try to manipulate something they want. A compliment isn't currency and you shouldn't expect anything in return.
