I'm debating whether I should work for a company or if I should be a freelancer and get webwork. I am seeing a lot of companies nowadays talking about website builders and encouraging people to build their own websites. Is the freelance web business a dead industry?
I've built 5 websites in the past two years. Some on WordPress and some on Shopify. I have zero web design experience but am fairly technical. If I hadn't been in the picture my wife would have definitely hired a freelance web designer for her sites. Even doing it myself I used the Shopify marketplace to hire a freelancer for some custom template changes.
Its like similar to hiring a tax accountant to have your tax done. If you have money and are lazy, why would someone go ahead and build a website, unless the person is curious and willing to learn?
So true
I think this is an apt analogy. Because yes, people who have money and are lazy will hire someone to do it, but as more products come out that do more of the task at a higher level for cheap/free, your pool of customers shrinks smaller and smaller. So consider that and make sure you are set to capture the clients that will pay and pay well.
