There are lot of people who are competing to buy a house in Bay Area. Given that there is some conflict whether buying house is better than stocks as an investment. It looks that a lot of people are buying a house as stepping stone to make them happier. Did buying a house made you happier?
You will be happy after 15 years
It didn’t make me happier but it made me more comfortable
Instead of paying 2k/month in rent, now I pay 7k a month in a mortgage
why do you buy a $1.3M house? and there isn’t a decent place in the bay where you can rent for $2k per month. My mortgage is around $3k and is somewhat cheaper than what I used tp pay for renting a house.
I have been saving up for down payment and lived in a shitty tiny place for 2k/month rent. Bought my house close to work and cut my commute time by 40 minutes
Mortgage is 2x+ previous rent, but new neighborhood has more things to do and newer home is more comfortable than previous, older, apartment. And now we also have a garage to store our junk.
My friend bought a house in smell pitas and 1. He didn’t like the smell so he hated it 2. He hated the commute 3. His wife got pregnant so he got stressed about mortgage . However 3-4 years later he says he is better off after buying it coz he can sell at a profit now
Smell pitas is right up there with Deadwood Shitty
Milpitas , CA ? Smelly city of bay
It both made me happier and added significant additional headache.
Buying a primary 🏠 can't be compared with investing in stocks.
It was great. Increased my commute by over an hour each way and finally gave me something to do in all my free time that I ever had in having to constantly fix broken shit.
I don’t know about others, but for me buying a house had only 1 purpose, Improve my lifestyle. So I bought a nice house closer to work, bigger and I’m having a blast. Now my commute is a 15 min bike ride. As I’m single I rented a couple of rooms to some close friends and that helps me pay it. I would say buy if it will improve your life. Otherwise keep renting.
I'm told a mortgage makes you love your job.
