See subject. Does bringing more diverse employees on board really increase profits or is this some bullshit story that we are all being fed?

Diversity and inclusion is just a way for minorities who are incompetent to make themselves feel relevant

Despite your anecdote, most leadership is not diverse even in tech. And that doesn’t seem like good enough reason - is there a shortage of non-diverse talent?

Tech leader ship is 99% white guys
Whenever a company says diversity what they really mean is they wanna hire more black and Hispanic people

And they are doing this strictly to avoid bad publicity that social justice warriors will try and force into any situation

I know right! It’s like schools were just fine in the south. Why would anyone think it’s important to integrate. Separate is equal. Everyone knows that.

Zillow you just demonstrated an uncanny ability to say something and nothing at the same time. True neutral. I have no idea what point you were trying to make.

What moral compass? This is not a charity. Minority or not, sit on your butt and get better. That’s how it’s done. Keep virtue signaling, you’re such a good soul.

Diversity and Inclusion is what you bang on about as a CEO when you have no vision. Like at F5.

It’s about not being attacked by SJW in California. It’s like a shield. And a free press when you show you are woke enough.
In terms of hiring - it hurts the company, because you need to lower the bar to show diversity of your team.
But again, it’s lesser of two evils for Silicon Valley companies to be complacent.

Probably also an insurance against guys who write manifestos lol.

I agree though. I’ve worked with very incompetent diverse people. Frankly it’s not good for them to be hired with a lower bar, because their stress levels are high. It’s not good for me, because it’s demoralizing.

Whenever anything but merit comes into play, hiring process turns into a shit show. Hire the most competent, not the intersectionality winners, and then you'll succeed.

This diversity bullshit attracts activists who care about the "code of conduct" more than about writing actual code.

Think of startups. Do they care about diversity? No, not really. They need to survive and deliver the product. You can't deliver the product on time if your team is distracted by some irrelevant crap.

I don't think it's ever about money. Otherwise a company would never have a "push" for diversity hires. They'd just always hire the most qualified person. It's partly about saving face in the scrutiny of the public eye. As well, it's about getting diverse perspectives which can definitely help in ensuring the views of all of your customers are being accounted for, which may indirectly improve profits due to higher customer satisfaction/ retaining

It's correlated. That could also mean richer companies have the resources to source diverse candidates, or that diverse candidates choose to work at more successful companies.

Guys it’s simple - being really diverse and not just paying lip service helps attract and retain a larger pool of people talent AND depending on your industry helps attract and retain a larger pool of customers. You should look like the markets you cater to and are located in.

But what’s the opportunity cost? Companies need entire D&I orgs to hire diverse talent. And why should your whole company look like the customer demographic or local demographic? Maybe product managers should, but why do infra engineers need to be diverse?

Diversity for the sake of diversity is a mistake. The most qualified, best candidate should be hired with absolutely ZERO consideration to superficial, meaningless physical attributes and cultural backgrounds. To do otherwise is actually the racist thing.

Yes for product teams which require diverse product ideas. No for engineering which is very logical and black and white.

Yes, influence, as another diverse source. Enough for product team to be diverse. Engineering teams should just hire the best.
