It seems that most people don’t do much in their spare time besides solve leetcode problems, even if they’re not actively interviewing. Lately I’ve been considering doing the same since there’s not a lot going on in my social life but it feels totally lame.
Never done a single LC problem. AMA
Are you a SWE? How did you get into Amazon?
TC?
I solve every and any problem I can find. Come interview time it Keeps it simple. I have a growing list of employers I deny offers annually. Don't get me wrong I am very happy at Amazon. I wish to add FNG too that list.
I love my job where I build things. I love to code and design at my job. But when I have to leetcode I don't enjoy it. I get thoughts like if this is what I am going to have to do to switch companies and increase my salary in my career then I should start looking for a new career in another field. It's like all the great work I have done at my company all this time amounts to nothing. If I'll ever leave tech, it will be because of its stupid interview process.
The problem with the engineers is that even the ones who complain about leetcode style interviews as an interviewee give leetcode problems as an interviewer. There are so many engineers who just follow whatever is the main stream and don’t have guts to do it differently. Blame yourself if you give a leetcode style problem. You are not just a part of the problem - you are the problem.
This is why I have openly boycotted interviewing candidates at Amazon, but I know I'll eventually have to come up with better ways of interviewing.
LC can be fun. Where’s that option?
I guess that would fall under the “yes I’m always grinding leetcode” option. Serious question, why do you enjoy doing LC? And did you always have that interest or was it a passion that you developed?
