it feels like minor comp differences and team specific differences aside, it really doesn't matter where you work if the company is top tier. It's all the same people who rotate between these. Here thinking about Google, Uber, Lyft, Airbnb among others Some have more mature tooling, some are faster as a function of being smaller etc but all in all, is there really a big difference? Does that ring true? Any folks who have worked at a subset of these companies care to share their thoughts?
Oooh look at me with all these fancy offers pretending that I don't care. Are the rest of you anonymous fuckheads proud of me because my parents weren't?
Removed the offending part
I think G is a different tier of maturity from the other three — in terms of tooling and how things are run. Besides that I think it’s just the problems the companies are trying to solve that may or may not appeal to you and only if you get in relevant teams as well.
Agreed! Problems and teams seem to be a more interesting way to think about companies to work at.
tOp TiEr
Being at a top tier company helps you get better jobs/offers in the future. If I only think about the present, I would leave Google for ShitCo, LTD for more money
Makes sense! Does Google have an obvious advantage in that over other companies?
I thought the top companies pay more than others and it would be hard to get similar offers at a ShitCo?
What about 🍎?
Some you’ll work 80, and 30 elsewhere! Makes a huge difference.
Depending on your goals even different teams within the same company can make a big difference!
