I recently got this offer from uber atg:

Base: 175k
Cash Bonus: ~21k
Equity refresh: ~100k
New hire grant RSU: ~14k
Relocation: ~10k

I am NOT a software engineer. I'm a system safety engineer with 6 YOE and masters. Is this a good offer?

For a systems safety eng, this is an amazing offer. Stfu and take it and start working your ass off. You have no biz comparing with software eng and data scientist guys since the technical depth and skill levels needed are not comparable. I can train a sw eng guy to be good in safety in a few weeks but not the other way around. Sorry but it's absolutely true. I was a systems safety guy in multiple industry and transitioned out so I know what I'm talking about.

So 14000*42 seems low to you for a non swe? Thats $588k for 4 years, geez

OP didn’t specify if it was 14k shares or $. But all others seem to be in $ denomination

In 2014? I thought they should give way more than that number.

I heard people were mostly lowballed in 2015.

    • Uber / Eng p3
      Lowballing started late 2015.

I’m eng and got 16k rsu. PhD + 6 YOE. Did you negotiate with the recruiter? Btw, is that l5a?
    Mar 17 5
    • Continental rFtb44
      OP
I did... but negotiations failed. Btw.. what is l5a?
      Mar 17
    • Facebook xxkw86
That’s the level. Could you share more details about the negotiation?
      Mar 17
    • Continental rFtb44
      OP
Not sure what other details you want... this was pretty much the first and final offer. Most of my demands were rejected....

Rejected by the recruiter directly? How many rounds and how long had you negotiated?
      Mar 17
    • Continental rFtb44
      OP
They were two rounds of negotiations. The recruiter supposedly ran up the numbers to the management but later declined both times.

What exactly does a safety engineer do? Like what kind of stuff do you work on

You should try to increase the equity if u can. Also ask for shares. Not the dollar worth if you can. Do you have competing offers?

I have a competon offer from Riccardo but it's fairly low since they don't have any rsu. TC ~ 180k

From what I understand, the recruiter said that the equity refresh is performance based

Can you explain the equity refresh? Are they quoting you an annual estimated amount of RSUs ($, not units)? Is this contingent on performance multipliers? In the past, before the bonus restructuring they quoted high numbers that almost no one ever got.
