Dog boarding?

Recently adopted a senior dog, 9y old. Infact he hasn't yet come home. However I'm going off to a meditation retreat for 10 days 30th to 10th Feb. All the dog boarding facilities I contacted on Yelp are around 65$ a day at the minimum. What do you guys do with your dogs when your out of the house for vacation? I'm sure for those one month India trips, this would easily be in the thousands of dollars. What do you guys do? I'm sure there must be a more sustainable solution! I've rescued dogs before and lived with them, but this is my first time being a real owner. I live in SF, ingleside heights.

Use Rover website/app or Wag app. Not sure how much they charge in your area. But Ive paid between $25-45/day.

Ive left him for 7-12 days. Its just the cost of loving your dog and traveling at the same time. Im paying over $1k to transport my dog across country

Can you recommend me someone you trust on those apps? Do they board as well?

$65 is the norm! Dogs are expensive.

How much do you spend on average when your out on vacation? For me, in a year I'm out of the country 3 weeks, and out within the US at least another few weeks all weekends combined.

It depends on if I can take the dog with me. I am traveling with my dog right now to SF and it’s been free (he is 11 pounds and he’s my ESA so I fly him free) other than day care for $40/day. I plan to go to Hawaii, it will be $450 for the week unfortunately. Out of country you’re SOL. Just gotta pay it. Probably shouldn’t have gotten a dog tbh or find a friend/roommate.

Assuming your place is nice, convince a low income friend to house sit / dog sit and stay at your sweet pad for free in exchange for walking your dog

I've no low income friends in the bay area. I'm not native to this place.

What a great start to your ownership. Don’t have kids.

FYI, for those who stumble on this thread and who have a similar issue, I found this website www.trustedhousesitters.com It's a 100$ annual fee, and kind of like an Airbnb, except that you don't charge rent for your place but offer it free to travellers in exchange for taking care of your animals. People have reviews all ways, both the home owner and the dog sitter and the dog. Going to use this going forward.
