Many top tech companies pitch bringing dogs to work as a perk. For multiple reasons, I personally cannot stand working in environments with dogs, and avoid pursuing opportunities with these companies. Sadly this precludes me from considering some of the best companies: Facebook, Google, Netflix, etc. I’m curious, does your employer allow dogs? Do you think this is good or bad? I can accept that I may be in the minority with my feelings towards canines. I wonder if this dog friendly culture will ever change in the valley, and if it’s as prevalent in other parts of the US?
It is fine if they don’t bark at everyone but some do. My former employer allowed it but not my current one.
Very few people have actual dog allergies that would be set off by well groomed dogs in office HVAC environments. Drama queens.
I don’t think people who feel this way are being drama queens. Reasons to dislike working with dogs: noise, allergies, fear of dogs (perhaps due to a childhood trauma, etc).
My last workplace allows dogs, but none of the engineers brought one. Only person on my team who did was the product owner. It was a little annoying but not really a big deal, tbh. I grew up in a rural farm area and as a result I have an extreme dislike of having animals around, so I feel ya. I wouldn’t let it discourage me from working somewhere tho.
Facebook doesn't have dogs. Amazon did and it was annoying. I like dogs but don't love entitled dog owners. I worked for a small start up and all three of us brought our tiny old dogs to work every day and it was amazing.
I wonder if this has changed? I remember visiting the old Facebook campus around 2010 and I am pretty sure I saw multiple dogs in the office.
Recently went through process at FB, and yep they are no longer allowing dogs at work. Not sure when the policy changed
I work at Google and I have a dog. On an average day I see zero dogs. There are dog-free areas, typically created when someone cannot be around dogs. They are never allowed near food and bathrooms. That's it. I'd say you are more exposed to dogs on the street than in Google. I bring my dog to work once or twice a year, when I can't leave him at home.
Do you happen to know if dogs are welcome at all (or most) Google offices, or primarily just in CA or the US in general?
Also, for the dog free areas, how is this communicated / enforced? I’ve been pitched on this concept by recruiters, but I was skeptical how effective such measures would be.
It’s definitely a perk, you got teammates play with he/she for free, then after work you can have some rest
I think you’re way overthinking this - unless you’re allergic. It’s not like a 1:1 dog ratio. They’re sprinkled around and won’t get in your way from what I’ve been exposed to.
I don't want to work with someone hates dogs. Please don't come.
Don’t worry, I won’t :)
People are so sensitive! He just do not like dogs in workplace , what is the big deal?! You are probably just a creepy dog owner that you want everyone to love your dog, guess what? Get over it!
Dogs are limited to certain areas at SFDC, if there’s even a space at all.
Yes I’ve heard about the “puppy force”
Are you an Indian
Wtf weird question
Some religions consider dogs “unclean”, but still a weird question.
