I feel like I am done with this tech world. Not that I hate it but it’s a rat race and the moment you slow down, you are reminded that you need to catch up or you will lose the boat. I think I make enough but still not satisfied. I want to be in a place where I work when I want and don’t slog for more than 4 hours a day. The thought that I will die one day and will keep doing this for most of my life, dulls my mood. Is there any job in the world which makes you happy and still pays you well?
Start your own thing maybe? In an area you’re passionate about
I can’t start my own thing yet. I am on visa. I can probably go back to my country but then I don’t know if that’s the solution
You don’t have to be a US citizen to start your own thing.
Why not use your YOE to build your own product?
Just complete your tasks at work, and do not compare yourself with others. Just set the expectation to yourself, that you are okay with being at the current level.
Quit and travel!
Level, YoE, TC?
Yeah, TC?
The only way to get out and keep your own hours is to do consulting where you control what or how many projects and hours you are working. Everything else is another version of the same rat race.
Two options. Quit for a while and enjoy life until you really miss going back to work or start a hobby and keep yourself busy with that and don’t care about raise and promotions at work.
Do you have any hobbies you have pursued at the expense of work?
Have the hobby on the side. Don’t quit your job for the hobby. I do have a hobby. I plan to pursue it further. I enjoy interior design. I plan to take some training and start doing it for free and maybe once I’m retired I’ll do it as a part time job just to keep myself busy.
Slog for more than 4 hours a day?? That’s like a super relaxed life if you work less than 6-7 hours per day.

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Smoke week after work. It helps
That's like taking aspirin for a severed limb.
Good point.
