What is a tip? AFTER you’ve had excellent service by a (usually lower paying job) service worker, you can let them know you appreciated their service by providing a monetary tip. Then why does DoorDash ask to provide a tip BEFORE you’ve placed the order? This allows the worker to provide whatever service they please knowing they already have the tip. Secondly, this just further exacerbates America’s odd tipping culture.
No they are trying to monetize your good will. Tips get added to the general comp pool. So your driver does not directly get the tip. I heard there was word of outlawing this practice but don’t know where it’s passed or not.
Imagine tipping
Does DoorDash forces a Tip or it is optional?
it's optional but I think the driver sees if there is a tip or no. So potentially the tip is the difference between spit in your food and no spit in your food...😐
Sees how much as well?
They don’t make the food so they’d have to unwrap it and rewrap it
Someone also mentioned that these guys have some weekly wage, if they make some amount in tip then company pays them just the difference, which means its not wage+tips, they just get normal wage and tips actually go into their pockets.
I really don’t expect that - mostly because this is 1099 contractor work where the individual can choose how much to work and when.
Doordash tipping is like some of the SF restaurants writing in their menu that they will add 3% to the final bill order to provide a living wage for employees
The whole tipping culture is BS and needs to end
neah... if you're not paying the waiter's compensation, who will? the owner?! he's too busy choosing the color on that new benz
The customer pays the same amount. $10 meal + $2.50 tip. Just make the meal $12.50 and pay the waitress a living wage.
Square asks for a tip amount at the register when you're placing your own order. Isn't the point to tip for service?

Dash pass doesn't mean no tipping last time I checked
