Just received two offers for a product design position at Facebook and at Dropbox. Both seem super cool but the total compensation offered by Dropbox is way higher! I'm having a tough time choosing. The work at Facebook seems really interesting but Dropbox seems really chill with an opportunity for growth! Dropbox position Senior Designer 170k base 15% bonus 290k rsu Total comp ~268k after the initial year Facebook position L4 Designer 142k base 10% bonus 140k rsu Total comp ~205k starting year one Trying to see if Facebook can come up as I was super interested in the position. Any insights from the community?
My two cents - if you see an opportunity of growth, then go for it because if we dont see growth then we usually switch again.. So I would say, if you are sure about it then go for dropbox. If not then its Facebook. Also try to negotiate with FB since you have a counter offer.
Agreed. The only thing is facebook has more products so there is more variety for designer I supposed. I think Dropbox would still be a wise choice given how high the tc is. I wonder if facebook allows the offer to sit for a year like Google does.
Totally! Dropbox does seem wise due to the compensation, but the product space at Facebook really is vast and the research is going into more interesting spaces. It's going to be a tough call if I can get the comp closer together!
Dropbox. Great comp + a product that people actually like. I also think you will have more growth opportunity at Dropbox.
It is! Their culture seems really great too! Like over and above the great compensation offer, everyone is so humble and welcoming. It seems like there's also room for growing the product and making waves since it's design team is relatively new. However I'm torn about the nuances! I'm not sure their research or tools are as fun to work with as some of the prototyping I would get to be a part of at Facebook!
Go to Facebook.
Not sure if 60k is worth the Facebook swag. Dropbox is a well known company and their stock seems to have bottomed up and may run up more than FB.
If you haven’t yet, you should share your Dropbox offer with your recruiter at FB. If FB closes the gap, I’d go to FB. Why? Because so long as you are doing well, you will be able to change teams/products and learn a tone over the course of your time there. You could join the newsfeed and stories or IG team to work on social stuff, messenger/WhatsApp to work on messaging, portal team to work on social presence, or you could go into the AI team, Oculus etc... There’s almost every type of product available for you to potentially work on. Additionally, FB has incredible designers, who are humble and caring and want to see you grow and succeed. Now, if FB doesn’t close the gap, then I’d go to Dropbox. It is still a great product and from what I hear, a fun team. Congrats on your offers and good luck!
Can you share how many years of experience you have?
If you like WLB I would suggest dropbox
No way
Way.
