Generally, you need to be an early enough employee to get rich from IPOs. From what Iâve heard from friends, if youâre the < 100th employee (depending on company of course) you can even get like close to 0.1% equity (depending on role). If the company IPOs at even a $1bn market cap, thatâs $1 million. Of course if youâre early enough to get sizable equity, youâre also taking a big risk. At that time, your equity is nearly worthless since itâs very uncertain whether the company will succeed and launch its IPO.
