Out of the over the counter medications, Mucinex, Ribitussin etc. and their different variants are most commonly used. Which one do you find / recommended most effective to heal dry coughing? Personally i don’t experience coughing problem very often; but got one recently and feel such repetitive coughing annoying for surrounding co-workers, which likely will go for a week or so. Thanks for the suggestions.
Honestly, if it goes away in a week, there's nothing to worry about. Even a doctor prescribes antibiotic only if the infection doesn't go away in a week or so. Cough drops work for me to suppress the irritation for a few hours, so I keep a pack on my desk.
Guaifenisen (the active ingredient) is helpful. If it’s viral, and it probably is, you’re just going to have let it run its course, but this will help. If post-nasal drip is causing the cough, anti-cholinergics will help to dry up the phlegm which will make it easier to cough out, and should offer short term relief from the coughing reflex. Google that for ideas about what to take.
Probably not a good idea to take anything with Guaifenisen for dry cough (no phlegm) as it would make it worse
If it’s genuine dry coughing, sure, but it rarely is. He’s probably got some other pathology (post nasal drip) that is triggering the cough reflex. It’s probably so runny it’s perceptibly dry. It still helps to get that shit out of your sinuses and lungs. Or I could be totally wrong. 🤷♂️
Get this from any Indian store. It’s Ayurvedic (only natural herbs and no chemicals) and works like a charm. You can google and read about the ingredients as well.
How do you know it will go away in a week ? If it lasts for few days I would suggest a doctors visit . If it’s bronchitis it won’t be cured by OTC meds .
Agreed. Just guessed from past experiences.. once or twice it lasted for over weeks.. even after taking Mucinex (if recall correctly).
Cough drops sooth the throat and reduce coughing
You need to see a doctor. I don’t see why people ask these health questions here without seeing a doctor first.
Wish there was ample time! But time doesn’t always permit to consult a doctor for typical issues.
There’s always time. If you don’t have the time, you probably belongs in the emergency room. Urgent care clinics are always available for walk-in purpose. All hospitals have a phone line you can call for consultation. You have a ton of options that beats anything you get on Blind.
