Suppose we work for 50 years. Have children and grow old. After that we die. So what was the point? Everything for kids?

If you live a good fulfilling life is like you live twice. The older you will get back in time and relieve all those great memories. Make friends and memories and travel and jump head first in life sometimes.

Things must suck for you if procreation is the point of your existence.

Does anyone have any point of existence which isn't low in someone else's opinion?

Its about the journey in the end... that is where the meaning lies... children or no children.

No point in having kids in current generation imo. They are less thankful and you end up spending more time / energy / money on them. Whomever couple I have spoken to mentioned that — have a kid only if you are extremely extremely sure about it.

You seem entitled. You don’t have kids expecting them to be thankful.

Then what's the reason? Also, you don't raise them expecting them to be thankful but if they aren't, you feel bad for not raising them well.

Nah, you work for 18-25 years then get laid off for being too old, with mortgage and kids college tuition on your hands.

These aren't the kind of questions that you can truly find the answer in internet forums.

If you want to actually answer this question then go to a park and sit there for a few hours, without being on your phone or distracting yourself, and take time to think deeply about it. Write your thoughts as you do.

Read deep books, "man's search for meaning", "bible", "Quran", "The book of Mormon" any book religious or other wise that forces you to think deeply about this question.

It's an extremely valuable question that's worth taking the time to answer. Many people ignore deeply thinking about it but taking the time is worth it.

  • To have worked at Albertsons, obviously!

On a serious note, listen to the Naval Ravikant on Joe Rogan episode. He really really lays out a very solid foundation to think about all this. Jordan Peterson as well. I don't think there are much truly honest "advice"/wisdom givers out there that present a better lay of the land as them. Most don't delve deep enough into our core psychological motivations. Our interaction with the modern capitalist society often leaves us feeling empty because we are treated as workers without a soul, when we are all individuals who are more nuanced than just our TC and pedigree.
