Just curious about the general policies - are the EB1A's mainly for PhDs / O1 visa holders only ? Or does Google try EB1 for non-phds managers who are on H1b too ? If you have any experience with this pls pm me

Having Phd doesn’t satisfy any necessary or sufficient conditions for EB1A. One has to show publications in high impact/selective journals/conferences, citation of their papers by others in the field, etc. Plus receiving a best paper award or being recognized as senior members in scientific organizations, reviewing others work, etc strengthens ones case. I know a person who worked at Microsoft Research (Masters no Phd), with stellar publication who got his green card under EB1. I know Phds who have been rejected in EB1 category as well. But with all that being said, chances of a Phd is on the higher side to have the above credentials (publication, citation of those papers, reviewing, etc) as compared to someone who didn’t go through that process.

Practically speaking, chances of PhD getting EB1B are super high (note: I am saying EB1B, not A..but both have same queue). So much so that, it's ok to say that PhD => EB1B. This is because for completing your PhD you will *need* several publications, review papers, present in some conference, etc. All of which combined basically make you meet the EB1B bar easily.

I agree; EB1B is much easier than EB1A even though it requires sponsorship from employer. The bar for EB1A is quite a bit Higher and I have seen rejections for Phds with average (not top notch) publications.

Well I know PhDs who are not "special" in any manner, and I know people who are non PhDs for whom hundreds of PhDs work, so let's not generalize

I know couple of people without PHD who got EB1A approval. The story the weaved was that they are creating as much impact as a PhD and are getting paid in the similar bracket.

Best thing about EB1A is that you don’t need a sponsor and premium processing is available for i140.

Yes it's a tough sell that's what piques my curiosity - knowing lawyers they can spin things . I know of senior management folks who did get EB1A without Phd

Keep in mind that attorney get paid for the *time* they spend on a case. They only stand to gain if Eb1c route fails and applicant need to go for eb2

Exceptional abilities stream?. It's a very tough sell without Phd and/or patents

Do you have an offer from these companies? Id be doubtful that they'll recruit eng. managers from banks directly. Maybe if you're going into a relevant area like payments and such.

Sucks for you, but I sure hope they don't give out EB1As for non-PhDs.
