I need to wait many years for EB2 GC, and I think it’s likely that an economic recession will happen before I get my GC. If I get laid off, then all those years of waiting will be for nothing. Has anyone researched on possible ways we can do to reduce this risk?
Well move to a career path that will always be in demand. If you are key to the team they will not let you go first!
Wtf. Google never lays off anyone
A recession hits, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s Google or Uber. Everyone lays off to save operational costs. It is a matter of which product is making money and which isn’t. Google however tries to redirect resources by asking employees to pick other teams and then lays off.m folks that couldn’t.
You know you don't need to be in the US to remain in the queue, right? You can go to your home country and wait there. Why does almost no one understand that a greencard is for future employment?
Future employment matters only if your date is ever gonna become current. If it's never gonna be current then it's only use is extend H1B
^ This. If your PD is never going to be current, then you can only stay with H-1B.
Google is not same google of 2000-2005. It will layoff thousands as well
Google definitely way overhired at this point, a lot of their employees are from Microsoft and other old giants. Eventually they will lay-off due to this madness
Also Amazon
If you are the top performer with good skills you can lower your risk
Well most orgs overhired in the past few years. Also when it comes to layoffs, it’s more about your project/product line w.r.t the business needs, not your technical skills. Just look at chip design...thousands laid off because of lack of demand in certain chip product lines
