EB5 Decision making

After a few months of vacillation, I've finally decided to apply EB5 route, but am intimidated by the decisions involved. I believe I have a fair understanding of the process, but feeling lost when it comes to searching, evaluating and picking a lawyer and an investment. I am willing to settle for little or no interest, but would like to minimize the risk to my GC and principal.

Anyone who has done this before have tips to offer? Please DM me if you don't want to comment, or leave a comment and I will DM you.

PS: I know I'm lucky and not everyone has that option.

I applied for my EB-5 in August 2016 and got my GC 18 months later. I went for a super low risk option for my investment just because I was getting money from family. As long as you're doing your homework and due diligence and not trying to use any black money for your investment, you should be fine.

I looked into it seriously. Bottom line was you should be ready to lose your investment of $500k

Contact renowned immigration law firms like Fragomen (personally don’t like them), BAL, Pearl etc. They charge higher fees but you have a good law firm on hand. They usually suggest regional centers for investment depending on their previous experience dealing with them but won’t recommend any. You have to do the research & select.
PS: I haven’t done it but spoke to my company immigration law firm to get an idea. Legal fees is around 35k for engaging these firms to do all your paperwork.
Btw, try to decide and invest by Dec 2018 and get your application submitted. The current EB5 policies are good until end of this year.

You have 80% chance of getting money back. Those are good odds! Understand the project thoroughly

Do you have experience with this? Where can one find a list of underserved areas (that qualify for the $500k option) and a list of projects that are seeking a capital investment like this?

I've been researching for 6 months. Attend some EB5 events (Google/Meetup) and take a close look at the projects. Mine is in a rural area near Chicago. I visited and the developer seems genuine. Also you need around $550k ( lawyer and app fee) Very straight forward process

Applied earlier this year. Do it as the wait will always be less than EB2 even if there is retrogression. There was a huge influx of applications in 2017 and 2018 from Indians and I think in a few months, India will be seeing a retrogression too. Amount of research can be overwhelming and so a good immigration lawyer is key and then go with a project that makes sense.

China already has years of backlog. India will follow soon. The number of visas allotted per country for eb5 is far less than other Eb categories like 2 and 3. Can fill up fast. We only have data till 2016, so decide.
