What's it like living on the east side of Austin? Looking for recommendations for affordable housing and less than 40min commute
Affordable housing in Austin on a Google salary? You could live literally anywhere
Mt Bonnell or Rob Roy might be a touch tricky, but anyone making a decent FANG salary can afford to live in 98% of areas in Austin.
Just trying to save a ton of money. Looking to boot strap my own business.
Parts of East side are getting better, but you'll still be surrounded by a lot of crime and sketchy areas. If that's the feel you're looking for, South Austin is probably a better bet. You should be able to find plenty of places in your budget in the 04 area.
Look for places where people are renting out their stand alone rooms on Craigslist. That would be even cheaper and you might find a place in a decent area.
I have quite a few friends over there they like it. I don't think it is dangerous at all, and generally Austin lacks dangerous areas like other major cities have. Much if east Austin is now gentrified. Someone mentioned 04, and it is nice but no longer cheap (especially the cooler parts). Same can be said of east Austin though. What 5 years ago would have been 100k shit hole is now 500k duplex.
East side of Austin is not known to be a good area to live in. Higher crimes
Used to be generally gentrified expensive and safe now.
