hi,

i want to send my resume for a position at Facebook but i need to use an acquaintance whom i am not really comfortable asking for a favor. I was wondering what is the Employee referral processes look like at Facebook from the employee side? what exactly does he need to do so i would know if i can ask this favor or not.

Personally, if someone I know asks for a referral I usually just submit it as a lead. Not sure how helpful leads are in actually getting a recruiter to reach out. I would only submit a referral if I've actually worked with the person and can vouch for them.

I've only referred one person, which led to an eventual offer. But it wasn't just submit and forget. Recruiter followed up with me a couple times asking detailed questions and checking to see if I could confirm or comment on some of their listed work.

If you haven't actually worked with your friend, they will probably just submit you as a lead.

Is it a different process for people you worked with and/or have close work relation than "just a lead"? I mean how do the recruiter know the relation you have with that person if as an employee you just submit the resume in an internal ER program?

For a lead, you just submit the resume. Probably no different than if you just applied yourself.

For referral, the employee has to answer a bunch of questions, basically explaining your relationship and asking other questions. I believe the tool explicitly asks if you've worked with the person and at what company/time. And if you check no, it tells you to just submit a lead instead.

thanks!! i didn't know that. It is not a "lead" situation than. Does Facebook inform you if your resume were submitted via Email or recruiter phone call? or they contact you only if you move to the next stages? or in other words how can i trust this person really submitted my CV and not just said he did.

You won't really know. If it's a referral, you will have much higher odds of getting recruiter to reach out though.

All he needs to do is submit your CV, fill in a few fields and optionally write something about you. It's not much work at all if you provide your CV and a sentence or two about yourself. And if you get the job, s/he gets referral bonus!! So worth it for the acquaintance imo

      Thanks!
Is it true that i have to be his friend on Facebook for at least 30 days or it is just a rumor?
and more importantly how will I know if he actually submitted my resume and not just said he will? is there a confirmation email / telephone conversation confirming they received my CV or only if there will be a fit i will be contact by Facebook?
