There are a lot of resources online for engineering jobs but there isn’t much for engineering manager interview. Any tips for in-person interview in SF? What kind of managers do they like?
Get an offer from google fb. Guaranteed a job here
Not true. Seen candidates who got offers from one of them but completely bombed our architecture interview. We have pretty strict requirements on EMs being able to hold their own technically during the interview process
I’ve hired a few EMs lately - DM me your specific questions. A lot depends if you’re interviewing as a TLM ( where you’ll also be responsible for coding 25-45% of time) , or a seasoned manager and which group you’re interviewing for. Are you interviewing for payments group?
Sent you a DM. Thank you!
do you still work for uber?
Why would you want to work at Uber?
Why wouldn’t you? We have a new CEO that is cleaning up the company. A new head of HR that is helping to redefine the culture. The company is at the point of reinventing itself. We are at the point of the company growth curve where we are transitioning from startup to real company. If you look at any high growth company, they all go through the same growing pains. (Facebook and Google both have had their equivalent scandals at this point in their growth cycle. ) We are dealing with a totally different class of engineering problems than many other companies. Real time, online to offline all around the world with significant impact. If our technology fail, people get stuck on the side of the road. I left Google earlier this year for Uber and couldn’t be happier.
yea, I’d rather be at thoughtworks.
In my experience, it’s the same interview as a Senior SWE. Leetcode + Design + STAR style questions around leadership. Feels like tech only “knows” how to hire for SWE, so every interview is a variation on that model for most positions.
I have done some tech interviews of EMs Basically arch questions, prod issues , etc Off course, I pick and note a number of signals I get
How about the product engineering management roles? What kind of design/architectural questions are asked?
Design X. X=Uber, FB, Twitter, Snapchat etc.
My Uber contact said that his interview team cares about vision, mission setting, leadership, inspiration and trust. What are 10 or so sample questions Uber uses on these topics?
Be your authentic self.
