you're incorrectly assuming other companies operate with the bureaucracy and inefficiency ms does. Most PMs wouldn't make it on the outside

point is other companies dont have nearly many PMs as we do because they dont need them, because they dont add value

Would love to understand "more PMs" comment. How are you measuring it?

its black and white. At MS, they're everywhere. At others, my friends know of the existence of maybe 1 or 2

Not really. Microsoft PM is a really broad term that means very different things on different teams. I haven't seen a Microsoft PM that is exactly the same thing as product manager at Google. Google also has program managers and technical program managers.

Have been a Microsoft PM and also Google product manager.

I meant within Google, the title Program Manager is a different job than Product Manager.

PM + dev lead in microsoft == PM + dev lead + T-program manager outside microsoft

T-program manager is optional, dev lead and PM will share tpm responsibility if not assigned

Can you elaborate what you nean by "dev lead"? Like a manager or a more like a tech lead?

      Manager :)

Microsoft dev lead == industry dev manager
Microsoft dev manager == managers manager
