Let’s get some stats going for tech compensation in Europe, to aid us all in our growth. I’m mainly thinking about people in US companies in standard tech roles, but post whatever you feel is relevant. I’ll start: Level/role: ICT4/Machine learning engineer Location: Germany TC (Actual 2018): 160kEUR Base: 100kEUR Sign on and starting RSUs (start of 2018): 30kEUR bonus - 144kUSD RSUs / 4years RSU Refresh (2018): 95kUSD / 4y Bonus (2018): 10kEUR Experience: PhD + 8 years
Level / Role: Technology Director Org: 150 ppl startup Location: London, UK TC: 100K GBP + equity Base: 100k GBP Sign on: none Bonus: 3-10% if company targets met - they weren’t in 2018 ESOP: 0.1% over 4yrs worth about 100k gbp atm in total Experience: Web, 10 years

BTW nice figures apple, for Germany that is pretty nice
Yes, it’s not bad, for Germany. I might be slightly underpaid though, from what I’ve heard (and due to negotiation blunder when I joined.) So I want to hear from others in similar roles.
Uber Amsterdam, L5 TC: EUR 170K Base: 100K, cash bonus 20K, equity 50K/year. Note that equity is at 60B valuation. Assuming an IPO closer to the 110-120B number floating around in the media, this could jump to a lot higher TC. Offers being given out are still around 70B valuation. IMO huge upside to join the next few months, until IPO happens, as equity is already strong, compared to what other US companies offer in the EU. Also, Amsterdam has a low tax rate for expats for 5 years - the 30% ruling. And no capital gains tax. Both sweet when working in tech, especially pre-IPO companies with a potential IPO upside.
Pay is lower than China and India wow. What’s keeping you guys in Europe?
Quality of life for me, it is ridiculously good. WLB is also great (30 days of vacation for example), no need to beg to the manager, take it as you want. Can always go to the US for conferences and the company pays, been there multiple times already. Just always get screwed by the time zone but first world problems I guess.
Could you talk a bit more about quality of life? What are those qualities? Is there anything you can do in Europe but not in US?
