I got a SDE 1/L 60 offer from Microsoft. Original offer: Base- 117,000 Bonus- 20,000 Shares- 50,000 over 4 years I have a competing L4 offer from Amazon with TC ~164,000. Shared it with the Microsoft recruiter and he came up with a new offer. Base- 121,000 Bonus- 30,000 Shares- 85,000 over 4 years He said he would need to speak to the team to get approval for this though. He was checking with me first. I looked at recent 60/61 offers. I saw a lot of lowballs and this looked good to me. I also didn't want to push my luck too much. So, I told him I was happy with these numbers. The bonus is significantly lower than Amazon's bonus over two years though. But, I think the TC from Microsoft's offer is the same as Amazon's offer. Am I right? YOE: 2.5
Depends how long you plan on staying and how long the bonus takes for you to not have to pay it back. But a naive calculation would be (85 + 30)/4 years + 121 = roughly 150 If you’re ok with a 14k difference than go for it.
Yeah, I guess I included the 10% annual bonus. The recruiter tried to convince me that the benefits from Microsoft and the zero deductions for the insurance would all add up to make the difference. Just adds to my confusion, lol.
Yeah, that’s true. Plus as others have said, the 401k match is a cool 9k extra (tax free). Amzn only matches 3% (around 3-4k)
Yes the 401k match and insurance is great at Microsoft. I think they come out pretty even if you include that in your calculations (you prob should). What teams will you be on? What's the work you'll be doing? What's the workload look like? I'd be looking at those as I think offer wise they are pretty close
If you like the team at Microsoft, go for it . TC definitely looks good for L60 if they agree on it. Work life is better at MSFT based on my previous experience.
Take the updated Microsoft offer. Benefits make up for the difference, and you probably won't stay past year 2 at Amazon to get your actual RSU vesting.
Trake amzn, it's work is way more interesting. I have a few friends who worked at both and can confirm
