Evaluate friend’s google offer

A friend of mine recently interviewed and received the following L4 offer from Google

Base 150
Stock grant $340k over 4yrs
Bonus target 15%
TC comes to $257.5k
Location is Bay Area

This is a swe offer and there was no competing offer. How do these numbers look?

Were anyone able to get higher numbers without a competing offer?

The recruiter is pushing him hard to make a decision soon. He matched with a team and they too are pushing hard.

Would google be willing to make the same offer afterward (let’s say a month or so later) if he goes back to them. And would they be willing to match another competing offer at that time?

  • Sounds about right for l4 without competing offers.

This also happened to me, same explanation. Offer was way (>$100,000) lower than current comp. Competing offers are now a must since that’s what will budge the package up.

Google recruiter told me that they completely ignore current TC but will compete with other offers. I don’t think I’ll waste my time applying again if they maintain this extreme lowball policy.

      lol .. Easy mate.

OP - Add YOE, current company, new team, location etc for folks to provide you meaning feedback

Joining a month or two later should be easily negotiable. Negotiating TC without an offer would be difficult unless you provide something to justify why more.

It’s not about the joining that I was referring to. Rather, about the offer being available or not after a month. He might have to team-match again, but he is willing to do that.
