I got an offers from Google and Salesforce as below,

Google -T4 (268 TC)
146/400/10

Salesforce- SMTS (244TC)
185/150/20

I have 8 year experience including 3 years of Apple. Which one should I take?

Not nearly as good as Salesforce. It's not nearly as remote and wfh friendly as sfdc.

People do work and do deliver products that customers pay big $$$ for. They don't work crazy hours aside from the once a year crunch time for dreamforce.
The company is still doing good work and building things that customers pay big money for. Also Benioff is a marketing and sales genius imo.

Google. They have yearly refreshers that we don't have. Supposedly, they have good work life balance too like Salesforce.

Also is that 20 your bonus %? If you're SMTS, you only get 15.

20 is sign on bonus and you are right. I was told that the bonus would be 15%.

      Salesforce doesn’t give any refresher?

Salesforce wlb is better than Google, at least in my division.
Salesforce gives refreshers maybe to top 10% so don't expect it.

No refreshers. Only top performers will get rsu refreshers or so they say...
      Jun 1, 2018
    • Salesforce anon324
Yep as everybody said. No refreshers unless you're high up in the food chain. So if you're principal, you might have a 50% chance. Architect+ will be higher and more common. Leads and below are not seen as critical so they rarely get refreshers.

I thought LMTS is equivalent to ICT5 or high end of T5. Will check with recruiter whether I can get LMTS instead of SMTS then. Thanks!

Lmts is l4 maybe high end of l4.
      Jun 5, 2018

Yeah SMTS is like 3 years of experience here. LMTS package is quite a bit more than that offer though. You can ask for more RSUs or ask for LMTS. Take google if they don’t budge.

Haha... Notice how many Salesforce people has come out and told you to take Google 😂. That's not to say Salesforce is bad. I actually like working here. But it's not really in the same level as Google.

you need to factor in stock growth as well. Salesforce stock growth: ~80% last year, while it is ~30% for Goog.

Google looks good on your resume. My vote is for Google. I heard Google gives good refreshers.

Thanks. Do you know anything about the refresher? How much would it be?
      Jun 1, 2018
    • Google tcCd20
Salesforce rarely gives refreshers so factor that in. However promotion is much easier at Salesforce though with that base you're probably higher than many people at Lmts.
I don't have exact info about l4 refreshers but there are tons of blind threads about that.
Wlb is much better at Salesforce and it's easier to shine.
Learning at Google is much better.
Location is also important, being in sf is more fun than MTV.

I’ve worked at both: Google. SFDC ain’t bad, you get unlimited vacay, but problems far more interesting at Google, and overall better place to work career wise and financially

In case salesforce gives refreshers would your answer change ?
      Jun 2, 2018
    • Salesforce vPOH41
They don't give refreshers so your question isn't really relevant, but if we assume that TC is the same for both companies over all time, Google is a top tier tech company and Salesforce isn't, so I would still go with Google. Salesforce never fires anyone for performance reasons, and that's extremely evident. The low performers never leave, not that they'd be able to get a job anywhere else. I personally don't like that kind of environment.
      Jun 2, 2018
    • Google tcCd20
I've seen multiple people fired/managed out at Salesforce.
Though you're right, I've seen some brilliant people on one end and some people who had no business being engineers on the other end
      Jun 5, 2018
    • Salesforce vPOH41
I've seen a couple people fired. One of them got fired for non performance reasons. Both of them deserved to get fired. Really surprised to hear that you've seen people get managed out but it's good to hear another data point

    • If sfdc offers as much rsus and refreshers as goog and fb, if you’re into wlb, salesforce would become a great choice. They are competitive everywhere else compensation wise

Salesforce if you want WLB. Refreshers aren’t rare at all, those who complain about lack are probably the same who claim they cruise at 30hrs a week. You have options of how hard you want to really work and the pay adjusts just the same as anywhere else if you put in the effort.

Google is a better name and good place to learn starting out. It’s better for those still learning how to succeed because you won’t have the temptation to just cruise.

Compared to G refreshes are rare. I got multiple promotions at Sfdc and only got refresh once. At G yearly refreshes are expected unless it's your first year.
Sfdc was stingy with stock and generous with salary.

OP - is this Base/ RSU for 4 years / Sign on? What about yearly bonus part? I would say Salesforce is good considering it’s stock growth, wlb and depends on which cloud you join, you will have respective growth. Seriously consider only if you don’t care about yearly refreshes worst case but people do get who are at really high bar.

Having said that, I don’t know about google yearly refreshes and wlb.

I would take Google. *very* hard to get RSU refreshers at Salesforce so your TC will go down after 4 years

Google. why you are even 😕
    Jun 2, 20180
  • Just reiterating here. There might be periods that you get refreshers but it’s not easy to sustain year over year so you cant count on it as TC. Also, that 185k SMTS base is on the high end of its band, and you are indeed paid more than a bunch of LMTS i know.

What is the next level after lmts? Principal mts? How hard is it to get that for someone that has over 12 years of experience and what is their offer like?
      Jun 2, 2018
    • Lmts->pmts->architect->principal architect. 12 years, depending on the type of experience, can be offered a principal mts role
      Jun 2, 2018
    • Salesforce pagerdut
LMTS to PMTS is not that easy. From my observations, it often takes years of experience working at Salesforce, and not just overall years. Also you have to be in the right team where you can showcase your contributions.
