Got an offer from LinkedIn for SWE.
22L(base)+$32k/4 year(RSU)+ 10% annual bonus.

TC comes to ~30LPA according to some rough calc.

Is there room for improvement ?

Most likely I'll also get to keep my current unvested Msft stock (around $40k). With that included TC will probably be around 38LPA.

Current TC~26-27LPA(accounting in stock growth), 2.5 YOE.

  • Looks good for SDE2.
Did you try Amazon? They’d pay slightly higher TC. But then LinkedIn has a much better culture.

Failed Amazon onsite 😑. Any idea how much higher Amazon goes for SDE2 with 2-3 yoe ?

If you perform well and badass negotiate then goes to 35 lpa else 30 lpa is standard.
LI 30 lpa + peace is better than Amzn 35 without peace.
What was Amzn interview feedback? What was the reason?

Agreed on mental peace. Can Amzn offer more than 35lpa for SDE2 ? Because I'll make more than that at LI as well if I get to keep my unvested stock.
I just didn't do well at the Amzn onsite. Solved some, couldn't solve a few.

With unvested stocks, you'll be making more than with Amzn offer.

    • Amazon can easily pull in 40-45 for Sde2. But then since you were L60 at Microsoft, I doubt they’d do that.

I had a 50 lpa offer from Amazon for Sde2 a year ago, but then I was already L62 at Microsoft and was earning 37 lpa

Damn. That's good. How's Apple treating you? Are you in the new Apple India office? How's their TC?
      Dec 7, 2018
    • Apple’s good! There are some orgs to be wary of. Otherwise the work is alright, culture is chill, great wlb. Current TC is around 60. (After first set of refreshers)

For L60 it's good. How come LI offered a hike ? Usually within MSFT there's no hike good internal transfer

OMG, am I so outdated? Or Indian salaries have jumped leaps and bounds? I used to get 11lpa with 7 YOE 4-5 years back. Or I was underpaid like hell? Or is it only companies like LI, Amazon, MS, Google?

Tech salary boom is not restricted to the Bay, you know. That being said, non big name companies don't pay much even now.
      Dec 7, 2018
    • Tech companies are paying a lot. At 7 years experience you could easily pull in north of 50 lpa at Apple, Uber, Amazon, Salesforce, Microsoft

Anyone from LinkedIn India here ? Would you happen to know if this offer can be improved further ? Not anything drastic, maybe couple of L higher base, a few $k more stock etc

This is a good offer for SWE with 2 YOE. I don’t see much scope for improvement here. Already above average. I have seen couple of MS India folks already moving to LI India. Is everything good there ?

Yeah nothing is wrong. When the setup is as big as MS IDC, there's got to be some churn. LI is reputed to have a better culture than say Amazon, & you get to keep your unvested RSUs.

Can you explain more on keeping the msft unvested stock comment you made? Afaik msft and li are two different entities (though stock is common) and moving from one to another entails formally resigning from msft and joining li.

If it really is true, does it apply in the bay?
    Dec 7, 2018 2
    • Microsoft / Eng yuyup
      OP
Afaik your unvested stock remains intact when moving from MSFT<->LI, & this is true worldwide. Recruiter verbally confirmed, but I'll still double check.
And you don't need to formally resign. I was told MSFT HR would take care of it.

Interesting. I would still be skeptical about it as the pay would be too much including the old rsus. Please let us know once you confirm.
