Ever got in trouble for writing a blog post /tweet about your company ?

I recently blogged about my ex-employer and expressed my opinion openly about the discrimination I faced regarding my performance review, especially from my management chain (I called out my immediate manager's name and team). Also shared this on social media and a famous tech publication wants to re-post it. I see many folks, especially women doing that and don't see an issue with it. Should I be concerned about getting sued by my ex-employer?

Sure. What’s the post?

If I share it here well I won't be anonymous any more. Point being, my blog post is negative about a specific person and team at a company I worked for.

Did you sign any non-disparaging clause on your way out?

I don't think so. I'll need to check but what if I did?

It really depends on the content. And what do you hope happens

That this manager won't ever have a future job

Sued for what? Libel?

You can be sued for defamation, etc by the company and/or manager. Whether they win or not depends on your content.

They can't sue you. You just burnt your bridges with you previous employer. I doubt you care anyway.

They won't sue you if your story is factually true

Crusading against a former employer is like the story of sour grapes. Grow up already , it's not going to make a difference. You have moved on so be it and enjoy your current situation.

Do you have evidence and source to support your story? If so, go ahead and put it out. Ask the tech publication to make it anonymous. You have the right. If you do not have a source and you are just taking it out on your manager and company because you felt something isn’t right then you my friend, will screw up big time if that goes into publication, because, without a source, it’s just your opinion. And world doesn’t care about your opinion.
