Ever have a signed offer fall though after already giving notice?
Anyone have experience with this (such as issue with background check)? Did they let you stay or did you take another offer?
Happened once. Had offer, accepted position gave notice, about week before last day was called by new company. Expressed their apologies but the position has been eliminated asked me to sign a release and gave me 20k. Wouldn’t tell me why or give any explanation. About a month later it was announced they had been acquired by a competitor. I was going to move for the position and the new owners killed the product, I would have most likely been laid off. Dodged a bullet. My employer was really good about it but wanted a commitment that I wouldn’t continue looking for a new job, which was fine as I hadn’t been looking when the new gig had cold called me and was a significant step up in title and pay that wouldn’t have been easily duplicated at the time. Stayed another 22 months.
Yes can fall through even after signing although rare but not unheard of
Of the dozen or so times I’ve seen an offer rescinded, half had already given notice. All of the employers took the leaving employee back except one. That guy subsequently left tech and now works at a car repair shop. Very sad.
I'll add another one to your list. My SO felt it was too humiliating to come back and found a new job (2 offers) in 2 weeks.
Yes. I knew a startup that went through layoffs and rescinded signed offers. It was a sad situation for several folks who had already given notice.
I know a company that fire people within 3 months after joining, Pure Storage.

This is why you don't give notice until you've signed your offer
Updated quesrion to indicate a signed offer. Since employment is at-will, a signed offer is not a "promise of employment" but rather an agreement of the terms of employment.
