I am a Podunk state school grad. Everyone went to either elite schools or respectable state schools. One person even asked me how I got a job here?? I find it hard to relate to these elite students. I don't share similar college experiences.
Next time someone says that to you, ask him/her - you went to a good school and you work here! What went wrong?
Savage. But good option
Honestly, if you graduated from a shitty school and managed to get into a job where most people are from good schools, you already earned half of my respect (the other half will be earned when I get confident it wasn't by chance 😀)
To be fair you should not have gotten the job cuz you went to a shitty kindergarten in basic neighborhood. On average you should not have made through college.
???
After a few years of experience nobody gives a shit about your school. Except the small pool of douchebags who need to remind you that they went to Yale at the same time that they suck at their job.
Right but something I have noticed is that top grads always end up at top companies
Sure for your first gig post graduation. Then your experience matters a whole lot more. Any hiring manager who looks at your school more than your experience should be fired.
Besides elite schools don’t mean jack shit. I liked college, but I knew college alone won’t make real success. In the end, it’ll be the person with more EQ and drive that’ll stand out in the real world.
Oxford. Then everything else.
Speaking like bunch of undergrads..... Got a Fields medal? Better yet, rejected it because you cant be bought with a medal?
I'm in a similar situation being from a school known for record underage drinking and not much else. But seeing graduates from MIT or cmu being completely clueless every day makes wonders for my self confidence.
Your school must probsbly be top 50
Top 50 in a state, at least by size. Not sure where it ranks by quality.
A company cannot hire only from top school. Many different job role level skillls etc etc. they need to have some diversification as grad from top school wont do all the work there is in a company and also they might be retention issues
What’s a “respectable state school”?
Top 50 state school
?
