FB’s performance evaluation process is brutal, there’s one review cycle every 3 months. I got tired of the bad wlb here and used the first quarter of this half for interview preparation and onsites. I didn’t get time to land enough impact. Though I managed to secure Netflix offer , my manager said I got MM in this mid cycle review and really need to improve. (Posted details in internal fb group https://us.teamblind.com/s/pDWFZbHM). That’s crazy, it’s so hard to cruise or have side hustle at FB even for a couple of months. Those who jumped ship from FB, how did you manage to hit MA in your mid-cycle/half end review cycles ? I feel it’s impossible to prepare without compromising your work at FB.
Which field are you in, product, Infra or ML track ?
Every job I've ever left, I made sure to burn all the bridges. Its WAY more fun and satisfying that way. If I'm leaving, I'm not leaving to come back. That is weak sauce ...
Lol, don’t think that’s a good strategy. You never know what’s gonna happen in the future
I agree it’s not a good strategy, but I completely understand the op. Among the people I burned bridges with (very few), I’d rather be jobless and homeless than ever ever work with them again or ask them a favor, so it’s pretty safe.
How many hours you work a week, if you had to say? Considering accepting an offer for E5 in infra
It’s not just hours. At E5+ you need to spend more time on direction and roadmapping. So it’s more mentally stressful than just long hours. With FB’s too frequent reviews, too much focus on short term impact and metrics things can get tricky. Also, there are hacks everywhere, a lot of time/stress goes on fire fighting. The fix of underlying issue is rarely prioritized.
Understand and I appreciate a lot your feedback. Still, as a mere data point, would you mind say how many hours a week are you actively working in and out of the office (thinking about work on the shower doesn’t count)? I’ll obviously take it with a grain of salt.
Sounds like a lot of teams at Google too. You will get punished if you fix stuff instead of lanching new things. My manager said to me - don't bother cleaning code. I cannot reward you.
What is MM?
Meets Most (objectives). A slightly negative rating.
What are the various rating levels ? Does consistent(2) MM’s or lower lead to a fire ? What is the typical route for someone to get fired early (which happens a lot I believe) ? And how long does it take ?
Leave soon. Your mid cycle will not matter and you will be regrettable attrition.
How soon ? Will leaving before this PSC work ?
Midcycle rating is a trend and more a signal for you. It doesnt mean you are done even if you do nothing in the following quarter
But it might influence my manager to mark me as non-regrettable
Only in rare cases you get pushed out with a single MM. You shouldnt think you’re done with it
