Ex is a manager now

My current manager left my org and new manager hired is my ex. I was surprised to see him in US(he was in Europe) and my bad luck to meet him again as my manager. I love my job but don’t know what is gonna happen. Our story in short- broke up with him in 2015 after 3 year long relationship when i found him cheating on me. He came back last year in Feb to apologise but I didn’t entertain. Cannot change teams as mine is more of a domain specific individual contributor role. Am I just left with one option here-‘quit’?

Let your skip level manager know about this

Maybe not all the juicy details, just that you used to have a relationship with your new manager and you think it will be a problem. If he asks, then speak about the details.

No don’t speak about the details. To say you guys broke up is detailed enough.

See how it goes. He might not mess with you at work with HR watching. Just see how you feel after that. You can resign whenever you want, but you never know... just might be ok.

Anyone else with better idea than these guys?

Tell your skip or director about your conflict. Hopefully they value you more than an external hire who hasn’t started yet.

Is it really a good idea ?

Amazon LoanerBadg Jan 14, 2019

Yes, the sooner you act the better.

Don’t just quit. Talk to skip level or HR to find a solution.

It depends on how much you think he's capable of acting professional and unbiased.

No idea...let’s see

Try not to quit NetApp... You're probably safer than anyone else. Let's see if he's professional and if the apology was genuine.

NetApp Desii OP Jan 14, 2019

To see if he is professional makes sense but how is analysing apology relevant.

Oracle marriedM Jan 14, 2019

It will determine whether you get opportunities or whether you'll get leftover tasks.

Play with him, make him do things for you to think he can get to sleep with you again

SpaceX uevh5 Jan 14, 2019

^This. Also, I am really sorry about your situation, and I feel bad that I also find it a little funny. Don't quit, disclose to HR and skip immediately, maybe they'll find him another team.

Really mature... This is how they both will get into trouble
