Executive Coaching
Does anyone here use an Exec Coach? If so, what questions, conversations, techniques have been particularly helpful or valuable? Also, what does the coach charge for his/her services?
I’ve had an executive coach, but through an employer so I can’t speak to the cost. If you are interested, might be worth talking through this as a development support area for yourself with your manager, or negotiate something like this with a new role. Generally sessions with the coach were about my work, challenges I am facing, and making suggestions on how to tackle them. Challenges mostly dealt with politics and influence, but can be a variety of areas that are important to you. I found it helpful to have an unbiased third party to talk through challenges with, even if they don’t have subject matter expertise in my domain.
I’d never pay out of pocket. If the firm wants you to be exec they’ll pay. Otherwise it’s pointless
Entitlement galore. The only person responsible for your career is you. Your boss and the rest of the company couldn’t care less.

Which type? There are different types of executive coaching. CEO is different from CTO and VP engineering, etc.
