I need to tell the recruiter what my expected total compensation is (salary, bonus, equity) for Solutions Architect at AWS. The position would most likely be in Chicago. What's a reasonable number?

I’m interviewing with them. They asked me for expected comp via email and I just didn’t answer the question. They didn’t ask again. Interviewing on-site next week.

I'll try to postpone that discussion.
Paysa has 369 profiles for Solutions Architect with average TC $187k (All locations).
Glassdoor has 104 profiles with average $135k (Chicago).

    Are these too low?

That's my main question. Since we don't have a large sample size like we do for say, the entire company (36k Amazon profiles) I'm wondering if these numbers seem right to you.

Also salaries have gone high in recent years and I don’t think that these websites considers that.

OK I just discovered the levels.fyi website. Do those numbers look more accurate?

Paysa and Glassdoor figures are wrong. SAs can make slightly below SDEs. For example, L6 SAs can make anywhere between 250k to 330kish. This is the bay area figure though. Chicago may be lower due to lower living costs.

    • What's the day-to-day like as an SA? I'm thinking of switching...I have 10+ years of system and 6+ years of AWS experience. How much should I expect at this level?
