I was an F1 student till Dec 18th last year and then transitioned to h1b on Dec 19th. Can I still use sprint tax to file as a non resident for the entire year? I also sold stock options in May 2018 and gave etrade a W8 BEN form. Was that the right form for my status? Hoping to get advice from people who've sold stock while they were still in F1 status before. Indian citizen. Thanks!
+1. Why do ppl seek tax advice on Blind? If I answered yes to all of your questions with some bs logic, would you consider it?
Just trying to understand if people would have been in the same situation. It'd cost $600 to get someone to do my taxes so I figured Id ask here first.
Never heard doing taxes cost that much at an individual level. Where are you getting your numbers from? Google Hr block
I’m in the same boat. It’d be helpful if you guys could post any solutions you know
You should be on H1B since 1st October? And not December also read about first year choice. Google is your friend and there are many cpas under $200 to cover these type of cases.
Due to delays in H1B processing, if the approval comes after Oct 1st, you're effectively in H1 status from the date mentioned on the approval notice. It seems like the price I was quoted was way more than everyone pays here so I'll Google some more. Thanks!

I haven’t done shit today!
Just find a CPA
Any advice on how to go about finding one? Reached out to few from yelp and all of them quoted $600 to prepare my taxes. Haven't considered hr block because they're very crappy or so I've heard.
Why $600, any complications with your case? Usually tax filing costs around $100-150
