I’m a new grad that just started working. I’ve never been concerned about job security. I often see concerns about job security during a recession or depression - but do employees at FANG need to worry about this? Will Google start laying off a good part of their work force? To me, whenever I heard this advice I always discarded it and thought “FANG employees will always have amazing job security.” Even if I do somehow get laid off I expect I won’t have trouble getting another job.
No one worries about not being able to find a job in tech.
Keep telling yourself that
Tech is not a stable sector. You will very likely experience at least layoff in your career. After 2000 especially many people even from top companies did take a while to find a new job. Don't get cocky.
Look at the last few busts in the cycle. When this happens, you have a lot of losing companies (which results in those companies or massive layoffs) and a few winning companies that grow. Post 2001, this was Ebay and PayPal. Post 2008, this was google, facebook, and maybe salesforce and others. Just look for the winners.
25yoe HW, been laid off four times. It’s hard for me to get worried about it too much any more.
Glad to see there some level of reality in tech. Learn from this guy youngsters.

I do not worry. I just accept that nothing in tech is 100% secure and live with it. I don’t come for stability when I choose to enter this industry.
it may be right a around the corner or 5 years from now. nobody knows
It is impossible for anyone to predict a recession.Just live below your means, invest well and never take anything for granted
