I am a M1 managing M1s (if that makes sense) at FB. I have total 19 headcounts, and there are two M1s & two E6 ICs directly reporting to me. I am looking for new opportunies because my director doesn’t want to promote me to M2/E7, even though I am doing M2 job. Interviewing with Google, the recruiter asked me about my level at FB. I told her I am M1 managing M1s. She told me my interview was strong, and hiring committe will decide my level. Any FB M1 has landed on Google M2? TC510k
Why did you reveal your level?
M1 can have multiple M1 direct reports? New to me.
No. And your tc is low for m1 with 19 reports. Jump ship
I know
You probably shouldn’t have revealed your level.
I guess they don’t ask every candidate that question. For equivalent companies, they use it as reference for HC. In other cases, Google has a tendency to low-ball to the bottom, sometimes even humiliating.
Many M1s who interview probably claim something like that as it is not easy to verify. So I don't know if it makes a huge difference if you are actually doing it
You are probably right
I got Google L7 offer as an Associate Director at Wayfair with past managing teams up to 25 people, so it should be possible to make an M1 to L7 move.
Thank you for the data point. It’s encouraging!
Old post, but a couple of questions: - 1. What was the final outcome. It would be great if you made it and can share journey with us. 2. How do you have 2 EMs reporting to you in a HC of 19. I heard that per EM roughly 10-13 is expected in FB.

Why your director does not want to promote you to M2? Getting in Google M2 will be hard.
